Shielding Thyroid

Nutrition, eating right and at right time along with exercise can help balance thyroid.

Most women neglect themselves while supporting family and their needs. That was story of Monica Shukla. Her breakfast depended on what time she woke up or whether it is school day or weekend. Her lunch is prepared fresh but she eat at wrong time. Her snacks are out of boredom or stress like how she finished a dark chocolate bar just to please herself out of a stress situation. Eating is act of random happenings and not discipline. Add to this some stress, poor quality of fruits and vegetable, low nutrition in our cooked food, poor quality of sleep and Monica got a smoothie in tall glass called hypothyroidism.

The name thyroid is derived from Greek, it means shield. It shields us from growth and development abnormalities while in womb since week four. The thyroid gland is shaped like butterfly in the neck in front of windpipe. It's function is to produce group of hormones called thyroid hormone. The thyroid hormone regulates your body's metabolism and the way your body utilises carbs, fats, and protein for growth, development & energy in every single cell of the body. Also temperature regulation. It also releases the feel good hormone.

The main thyroid hormones are t4(thyroxine)and t3(triiodothyronine) made from food we eat.
Thyroid gland is controlled by pituitary gland, which is size of peanut located at base of the brain.
Pituitary gets signal from another gland called hypothalamus(inside the brain) to produces TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) which tells the thyroid to produce t4 and t3.
T4 is secreted in presence of iodine+tyrosine(protein made from essential amino acid called L-phenylalanine)

Many things including enzymes(iodine per oxidase),amino acids, neurotransmitters, vitamins(vitamin B6, C), minerals(Manganese) are involved in the process of bringing iodine and tyrosine together.
When thyroid hormones pass thru blood, brain measures the amount. If it is low, brain will signal pituitary to secrete a higher amount of TSH(we have hypothyroidism when we do the blood test)
Reverse also happens when there is more than adequate amount of thyroid hormone in blood, TSH level will drop.

When she visited doctor with this blood test showing thyroid imbalance, she was put on artificial t4 in form of a medicine. Medicine is like spot treatment. Hides the symptoms of hypothyroidism but does not solve it. The medicine starts with low dose and as she was not solving the root cause problem of eating the right nutrition, the dosage of medicine had be increased.

High triglycerides, diabetes, sleeplessness, painful periods, constant fatigue, low bone density, low vitamin D levels, PCOD (poly cystic ovary syndrome), high BP and of course weight gain/ loss are after effects of thyroid imbalance. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, both overwork the thyroid glands.

Food makes hormones, hence it has the ability to heal and is more powerful than we credit it.

Monica learnt the small tips from our team on how to turn hormones on her side by supplementing with right nutrition, making small changes to how she cooked food, when she ate her food and what she eat, sleep cycle, fun ways to add more physical movements, reducing stress and living a healthier life.

Today Monica does not need any medication for hypothyroidism. She practises healthier habits everyday and also coaches many on same path. Talk to us about your health today.
